StrikeForce Kitty
You do not attack in StrikeForce Kitty. Your four cats handle that themselves the moment they bump into something hostile, and all you do is steer the group left and right across a side-scrolling field. That makes this an auto-battler in everything but name, and it relocates the entire game into the wardrobe screen. Whether you win a stage is decided before you enter it, by what your cats are wearing.
The Wardrobe Is the Build
Every piece of clothing β hats, tops, gloves, boots β carries stat values for attack, defence, health and speed, and the outfits are drawn as affectionate parodies of costumes you will recognise from films, comics and other games. Collecting a full matching set grants a bonus on top of the individual pieces, which creates the game's central tension: a full weak set often beats four strong mismatched items, and working out which is a genuine calculation rather than a guess.
Items are unlocked with fish, the currency scattered across every stage. Fish accumulate whether you clear a stage or fail it, so a failed attempt is still progress, and the wardrobe expands steadily even during a losing streak. Each of your four cats is dressed separately, so a full squad is four builds rather than one.
Steering, Not Fighting
The stage layout is a broad corridor you cross from left to right. Your squad moves as a loose cluster, and the arrow keys shift all four at once β including up and down, which matters more than it first appears. Enemy foxes occupy specific lanes, hazards sit at fixed heights, and the difference between walking your whole team into a fight and clipping past it with only one cat engaged is a few pixels of vertical positioning.
Combat resolves automatically on contact. A cat that runs out of health drops out for the remainder of the stage, and losing the whole squad ends the run. The plot that frames all this is thin and knows it: foxes have taken the princess, you have assembled a rescue team, and everything in between is an excuse to put a cat in a ridiculous hat.

Up and down are as important as left and right. Use them to control how many of your cats make contact with an enemy group at once.
Getting Past the Difficulty Wall
- Chase sets, not single items. The set bonus is usually worth more than a scattered collection of higher-numbered pieces.
- Do not upgrade all four cats evenly. One well-equipped cat that survives the whole stage contributes more than four half-dressed ones that fall in the first encounter.
- Farm an early stage. When you hit a wall, replay a level you can clear comfortably to bank fish. It is faster than repeatedly failing the stage that stopped you.
- Approach fights from the side. Drifting vertically before contact lets you engage a cluster of enemies with fewer of your team exposed at once.
- Check speed before attack. A squad that moves faster reaches enemies together instead of trickling in one at a time, and arriving as a group is often what decides a fight.
Why It Works
Idle and auto-battle games have since become a genre of their own, and StrikeForce Kitty is a neat early example of the appeal: the moment-to-moment demands are almost nil, but the optimisation layer underneath is real. You can play it half-attentively and still make progress, then spend ten minutes genuinely thinking about set bonuses. It also sold its joke well β the costume parodies are the reason most people kept unlocking, and a game that makes you want to see the next item has solved its progression problem.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I control the attacking at all? No. Combat resolves on its own when your cats make contact with an enemy. Your only input is where the squad goes.
What do fish actually buy? New wardrobe items. Fish are the sole currency for unlocking outfits, and outfits are the only source of stats.
Do set bonuses stack with individual item stats? Yes. You get the values on each piece plus an extra bonus for wearing a complete matching set, which is why full sets punch above their raw numbers.
What happens if one of my cats runs out of health? That cat sits out the rest of the stage. The run continues with the survivors and only ends when the whole squad is down.
Do I keep the fish from a failed attempt? You do. Anything collected before the run ended is banked, so grinding a stage you cannot finish still funds the wardrobe.
