The entire design of Apple Shooter fits in one sentence: hit the apple, then do it again from further back. There is no ammunition to manage, no enemies, no timer. There is one arrow, one apple, and a distance that grows every single time you succeed. What makes it stick is that the difficulty curve is not a designer's estimate β€” it is pure arithmetic, and you can feel exactly how much harder each step is the moment the camera pulls back.

You play an archer standing on the left of a flat field. On the right, a volunteer stands with an apple balanced on his head. Pull the bow, release, and if the arrow splits the apple you advance. Miss and the round ends and you start over from the first distance.

The game dates to around 2008 and belongs to a small family of one-shot accuracy games that circulated widely on Flash portals in that era. It is deliberately unpolished β€” cartoon stick figures, a plain green field, no music to speak of β€” and that stripped-back presentation is part of why it plays so cleanly. Reading the Arc
